Odani Motohiko
Origin: Japan
Based in: Japan

Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1972. He interprets lost perceptions and transformations as phantoms, exploring ambiguous liminal spaces such as those between wakefulness and hypnosis, magic and salvation, reality and unreality, rationality and irrationality, and the human and the non-human. He also conducts research and artistic practice aimed at a new deconstruction of the history of modern and contemporary Japanese sculpture. He has exhibited in numerous international exhibitions, including the Japanese Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2003), the Lyon Biennale (2000), and the Istanbul Biennale (2001). His meticulously composed, highly polished artworks—which employ not only three-dimensional pieces but also a variety of media—are highly regarded both in Japan and abroad.
