Sports Day for Onigiri!” Held for the first time in Otaki Town

Sports Day for Onigiri! is a Sports Day for Onigiri! devised by food artist EAT&ART TARO. This event has been held continuously in Ichihara City since the “Ichihara Art x Mix” in 2014. Today, the event was held in Otaki Town, blessed with fine weather.

The event began with a bread-eating contest, specially sponsored by Yamazaki Baking Company, followed by the standard field day tug-of-war. The red and white teams won one game and lost one game, and the fateful third game was decided with a victory for the white team.

Otaki Town is associated with Otaki Castle and Tadakatsu Honda. All participants heated up in a variety of competitions, including the new “Kabuto Relay,” a new sport in which participants wore the helmets of warlords!

Finally, the red team won the onigiri roll-around, a relay-style game in which teams of both adults and children compete against each other. The white team had the upper hand in the scoring until about halfway through the game, but the red team pulled off a major upset to win the championship based on the results of the onigiri rolling game! A special onigiri trophy was awarded to the representative of the red team.

Afterward, the participants enjoyed a delicious meal of rice balls and side dishes made with local ingredients such as bamboo shoots and roselle, which are specialties of Otaki Town. The participants were very satisfied with the field day. When they left, they said, “I will definitely participate again next time! I hope the event will be held again.

Tomorrow is the last day of the pre-event.
